Semax

Research Context

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide structural analogue of the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) fragment 4-7, extended at the C-terminus with the tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro to retard enzymatic degradation. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail is a stabilising motif that meaningfully extends in-vitro half-life relative to the parent ACTH(4-7) fragment in plasma and brain-tissue assay systems.

This lyophilised material is supplied exclusively for in-vitro laboratory and scientific investigation. Preclinical studies have examined Semax in the context of melanocortin receptor activation, BDNF and neurotrophic-factor expression in cultured neuronal cells, and behavioural readouts in rodent models. No therapeutic, performance, or human-use claims are made or implied.

Chemistry & Structural Modification

Semax is a linear heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (one-letter: MEHFPGP). The N-terminal Met-Glu-His-Phe segment is the ACTH(4-7) “active site” sequence; the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension provides the proteolytic-stability advantage.

Lyophilisation & Stability

Each vial is supplied as a sterile lyophilised solid. Lyophilisation removes bulk water and yields a stable, low-moisture cake that protects the methionine sulfur and the labile peptide backbone from oxidative and hydrolytic degradation. Sealed vials remain stable for extended periods when stored cold, dry, and protected from light.

Storage

Store lyophilised vial at 2 to 8°C, protected from light. (Long-term storage at −20°C is standard practice.)
